My project for this term will be to print out two books I have previously worked on (The Complications of Formerly Vincent, A Day in Life of Transit) and to start a third book called The Conception of Helga Minelli.
For these projects, I will continue to do research into printing books, physically follow up with said research, and print at least two of the books out. This will also involve editing what I have for my books so far and making them superbly pretty for a final product. I plan on doing most of the editing work in Photoshop, as I am most competent in this program and feel that the layout and illustrations I've made in my books(since each page is a single panel illustration) would be best handled in this program.
My third project, The Conception of Helga Minelli, will be a story developed over the term and hopefully completed and printed. The plot for this story currently is a far-fetched interpretation of my alter ego pseudonym and tracing the origin of this character into her childhood and adolescence.
The research I have done so far for these projects has been in previously doing a similar printing project for a capstone, looking into local and online printing options, font research, and studying comics for ways of approaching my third book. So far the most influential sources have been Dan Clowes' Eightball, and Chris Ware's comics and interviews I have been reading dealing with how he thinks about his work.
As far as a time line goes, I plan to have both books edited completely by May 6th, and printed into a book format by May 20th. I will continually be working on my Helga Minelli story throughout the term, with at least 3 pages completed each week. At this point, the overall plot and approach of the story is still subject to change. I would like to complete this story in draft form by June 1st.
